Frequently asked Questions
Here are a few points that may answer your questions about Rhinoplasty, to help you make an informed decision before opting for it.
It is a necessity if it is for medical reasons, such as relieving breathing problems or disfigurement of nose (from birth defects or trauma). However, it’s an option if considering Rhinoplasty for cosmetic reasons that involves reshaping the nose for desired appearance and improved confidence.
It can reduce or increase the size of your nose, change the shape of the bridge, narrow the span of the nostrils, or change the angle between your nose and your upper lip.
Setup an appointment with a trained, and certified surgeon to discuss about your goals in detail – the recovery time, the cost, the procedure and risks. During that meeting, talk about your goals and your concern about your nose and how you would like to change it.
Factors include assessment of your overall health, the need for the surgery, and explain the possible risks, the recovery time, and approximate costs involved.
It may be an open or closed surgery. Closed surgery is done within the nose, without any incision on the outer surface of the nose, while open surgery is done with an incision on the outer surface of the nose.
The surgeon makes cuts within the nostrils (closed type), then reshapes the inner bone and cartilage to produce a more pleasing appearance.
The structure of your nasal bones and cartilage, the shape of your face, the thickness of your skin, your age and your expectations influence the procedure outcome. It also involves the patient’s attitude and general health of the person, the age and medical history.
Light activity can resume in 1 week post-surgery. Bruising and most swelling generally resolve itself in the first 2 weeks. Residual swelling can take 6 to 12 months to resolve.
After a nose job, you can expect side effects like swelling and some bruising around the eyes. This will begin to improve after the third day but can last for about two weeks. You will be wearing a nasal splint for a week.
Negligible swelling may be observed for next 6 months. The new and final shape of your nose will become apparent after complete healing.Adhering to care instructions provided by your doctor can help heal faster and manage any discomfort.
Infection, asymmetry, unsatisfactory nasal shape and incomplete improvement (may require additional surgery) are possible.
The Nose surgery cost includes:
- Implants if required
- Hospital / surgical facility cost
- Prescription medication cost
- Anesthetist and Surgeon’s fee
- Nursing and Support Staff fee
- Post-surgery garments
The cost can vary between Rs. 20,000 – Rs.2,00,000.
