Mesotherapy is technique for removal of excess fat and tighten the skin. This procedure involves use of injections constituting of enzymes, herbal extracts, vitamins, and certain hormones. It is basically used to get rid of excess fat in the thighs, belly, hips, and face. It is also used to eliminate wrinkles and tighten up loose skin which is quite common in people above the age of 50.
Mesotherapy is also used to give contour and alter the shape of various parts of the body. In some cases, it has also found to be beneficial in treating hair loss. The procedure gets its name from the fact that the ingredients are injected in the middle layer of the skin, which is known as the Mesoderm.
The primary aim of Mesotherapy is to address problems like circulation issues and inflammation that result in skin damage. There is no specific formulation of the substances that are injected. It may contain antibiotics, hormones like thyroxin, herbal extracts and hormones like collagenase. At times, vitamins are also injected.
How is Mesotherapy Performed?
Coming to how this procedure is performed, it is basically done in sessions which can range anywhere from 5 to 15. At times a numbing agent is given so that one may not feel the pain of the needles poking through the skin. A fine needle with the ingredients of the injection will then be attached to an injection gun so that multiple injections can be given simultaneously.
Depending on the treatment the patient needs to be given, the depth at which the injection is given is determined, which ranges from 1 to 3 millimeters. Each session during the initial stages of treatment it will be given once in a week but once visible improvement in the appearance of the patient is seen, then the sessions are spaced apart further to maybe once a fortnight or even a month apart.
What are the Benefits of Mesotherapy?
Regarding the efficacy of Mesotherapy, it is a tough question to answer as there are so many constituents of a single injection and the methods that are used to inject them are also quite different. There have been many studies conducted to see the effects of Mesotherapy and the results have not been that promising, especially when it comes to skin rejuvenation. Same was the case with wrinkles and reducing fat.
However, the sample size of the study was very small and there are many cases where dramatic effects have been observed after Mesotherapy in the overall look and appearance of a person. This is why it is probably the most sought after procedure, especially in females, who want to get rid of that wrinkles and the sagging skin that comes with age and have a fresh new look to their overall appearance.
