To have a beautiful flawless and smooth skin is everyone’s dream. However, some of us succumb to some injuries, burns or trauma during our lifetime and end up having scars. If these scars are in the visible parts of your body, making you always hide it under your clothes, it’s not comfortable.
Though scars will never go away completely, there are methods to help reduce its size and change its appearance, to make it less visible.
What is scarring?
It an integral process of wound healing. Scars occur when the dermis (deeper layer of the skin) is damaged. The appearance of a scar depends on the nature of the wound that damaged the skin, its anatomical location, and other genetic factors (different for every individual).
Types of Scars : There are different types of scars such as:
Acne Scars: Severe acne produce distinctly visible scars. There are many types of acne scars, ranging from deep pits to scars that are angular or wavelike in appearance.
Keloid Scars: These are that develop as part of an overly aggressive healing process. They appear quite heaped up, abruptly above the rest of the skin, that looks pink or purple color and smooth.
Contracture scars: These develop from burns, which are deeper scars. They tighten skin, and impair your ability to move; and affect muscles and nerves.
Hypertrophic scars: Similar to Keloids, these are raised, red scars, but do not go beyond the boundary of the injury.
