What is scarring?

Types of Scars : There are different types of scars such as:
Acne Scars: Severe acne produce distinctly visible scars. There are many types of acne scars, ranging from deep pits to scars that are angular or wavelike in appearance.
Keloid Scars: These are that develop as part of an overly aggressive healing process. They appear quite heaped up, abruptly above the rest of the skin, that looks pink or purple color and smooth.
Contracture scars: These develop from burns, which are deeper scars. They tighten skin, and impair your ability to move; and affect muscles and nerves.
Hypertrophic scars: Similar to Keloids, these are raised, red scars, but do not go beyond the boundary of the injury.

They are treated only when superficial scars become cosmetically undesirable. Treatment for Hypertrophic scars are usually steroid injections to reduce inflammation, or silicone sheets, which flatten the scar.
Over-the-counter or prescription creams, ointments, or gels may help mild scars from cuts and wounds. Skin grafts, excision, Dermabrasion, or laser surgery are recommended for deeper scars.
